iPhone Insurance

Insurance is one of life's annoyances that is easy to overlook, especially when you have a fun, shiny gadget like the iPhone 4 to play with. Just take a few minutes break from the App Store and iTunes, dig out your contents insurance, and you may well be pleasantly surprised to see that mobile phone insurance is covered under the 'Personal Possessions' section. This is all well and good, but it is worth checking what the single-article limit is, as the latest iPhones cost several hundred pounds to replace. Also check what your policy excess is, to be safe. If you have any doubts about whether your phone is covered, give your insurer a call. You should also spend a little while re-evaluating whether your total insured value of personal possessions is now enough.

Other important aspects of the phone insurance is accidental damage, and cover away from the home. Your phone may or may not be covered on either of these points, so it's important to check. Whether you think it's worth having your phone covered is up to you of course, but I would imagine that both accidental damage and loss away from the home are both quite likely scenarios with a mobile phone.

If you need to get separate insurance just for your phone then you may end up spending £10 a month or more - so it's definitely worth seeing if your home insurance can cover it first.
