If you want to get your house insulated, or just want someone to check what you need, go to the Energy Saving Trust Grants Page. Here are the companies I found:

  • British Gas estimated £270. A site survey would be in around 2 weeks, then another 4-8 weeks for the work to be completed.
  • Instagroup Snug-as-a-bug estimated £269. A site survey would be in around 2 weeks, then another 4-6 weeks for the work to be completed.
  • Southern Electric took my details, didn't know any prices or how long it would take for the work to be done.
  • Powergen. Just left a message; they should call me back.

You can go through any of these companies for the work, regardless of your current energy supplier. We're with Good Energy, and they're too small to offer grants (only 19000 customers - 50000 are required). They also didn't know if you had to be with an energy provider to receive grants through them. Just to emphasise, you don't need to change energy provider to get an insulation grant through them!!

By the way, I noticed that 30 June 2006 is a cutoff date for insulation. It might be worth getting an order in before then?
