Location: Shrublands Road, Mistley, United Kingdom
Colchester Rovers did a fantastic job with the classic Furze Hill course at Mistley. It was still run anti-clockwise, with the start running into a sharp U-turn and narrow tree-lined section, but was much more flowing than in previous years. There was less brutal climbing and the descents were generally more simple. What's more, the whole course had been swept so that there was little danger from sticks or brambles. Really tidy work!
There were 38 starters for the under-10s race, which must be a league record in this age category. Oskar Everett (Stowmarket & District CC) lost out on first place for once, with a chap from Bolsover & District Cycling Club taking the win instead. Anna Lloyd (Lee Valley Youth CC) was first girl, and Peggy Knox (ViCiOUS VELO) was first in the under-8s.
Jack Parrish (Ipswich BC) controlled the race from start to finish, with 2nd-place Nathan Gibson (St Ives CC) being gapped lap-by-lap. Harley Pell (CC Ashwell) was first girl.
Full results and lap times are on the Eastern League website, and there is also a report on the BC website.
