East & South-East Regional CX Champs

Location: IG6 3HP, United Kingdom

Conditions were hard-going for the racers of all age categories in the UK's south-east regional cyclocross championships, mostly because of a soft, muddy lower part of the course. Riders without a pit crew were at a distinct disadvantage as more and more mud was caught up each lap in the pedals, gears and frame. A strong breeze was helping to dry out the course, but it wasn't enough to cause real problems. The constant undulations and steep climbs - on mud and on tarmac - also took their toll on tiring legs. Here are the full results, on the Eastern Cross website. There is also a race report on the BC website.

Vet 40-49 race

Norfolk rider Shaun Aldous (Renvale RT) rode confidently to take the win by a small margin from Roger Maidment (East London Velo). I struggled much further back, battling against Mike Bowen (West Suffolk Wheelers) for most of the race - only to pip him on the line as he came unclipped, lost balance and lost speed.
