Stow Scramble (round 15)

Location: Ipswich IP2 0BP, United Kingdom

Slippery mud and wet grass was the order of the day for the Stow Scramble cyclo-cross racing at Chantry Park in Ipswich. There was very little opportunity to rest, and the many twists and turns (some off-camber) required considerable care and attention. A race report is available on the BC website, and there is a brief mention in the EDP.

I had a decent battle with a couple of other riders in the vet 40-49 race, with Nick Cook (Ipswich BC) and Mike Mooney (Hackney GT) putting the pressure on for half the race as Shaun Aldous (Renvale RT) headed into a comfortable lead. Around half way I managed to drop Nick, and was left with the tough challenge of going after Mike. Mike was struggling on the longer climbs, and I managed to catch and gap him for the last couple of laps - and finished under a minute behind Shaun! Best result of my season so far. Full results on the Eastern Cross website.
