East & South East Regional Cyclocross Champs

Weather conditions were perfect and competition was fierce on this brand-new custom-built course at Trinity Park in Ipswich. The course was generally flat and grassy, but for extra enjoyment there was a straight road section, a sandpit, some woods to negotiate, and a lumpy section used by 4x4 enthusiasts.

In the youth race, GYCC rider Sophie Wright won the girls category with a comfortable 30 second margin.

In the seniors race, Ross Tricker (XRT - Elmy Cycles) pulled off a narrow victory ahead of Hackney GT and "PMR@Toachim House" riders. His first place doubly fully justified as he was the only one able to ride up a very steep bank (1:1 grade, roughly) with a board at the bottom! Thanks to Chris Jones (rear shot), Fergus Muir (close-up) and Glen Boreham (side view) for these epic action shots.

I had a good race, finishing 11th after spending half the race on my own whilst catching (and eventually passing) a couple of groups of 7 or so riders. Thanks to Fergus Muir for these pictures!

Full results are on the Eastern Cross website: Regional Championships - Sunday, 8 December 2013. Eastern Region reporter Fergus Muir produced a write-up on the BC website (Tricker wins East and South East Championship) and published some photos on Flickr (East and South East Championship, Dec 8 2013, by Fergus Muir).

Big thanks to Steve Grimwood, his Elmy Cycles crew and the Eastern Region CX folks for putting on an excellent event with very short notice.
