Conditions were perfect for the Hempton cyclocross event, despite a misty start to the day and rain earlier in the week. A light breeze made the long road section extremely fast, and indeed it was a bit too fast for some riders who struggled to slow down enough for the hairpin turn. The course ran in a clock-wise direction this year, on roughly the same route, and was as lumpy and fast as usual.
The vets/women's race went smoothly, with only one DNF. Michael Bowen (West Suffolk Wheelers) took the victory in the men's race as he out-sprinted Phil Buick (Iceni Velo) to the line. Sherilyn Powell (Chelmer CC) was comfortable winner in the weomen's race.
Ross Tricker (XRT Elmy Cycles) was dominant throughout the race, pulling slightly ahead of runner-up Ben Lewis (Hackney GT) on each lap. Cyclocross newbie Ben Findlay rode an amazing race to finish 7th. I had a bad race, though: a slight detour into some bracken resulted in my rear mech getting ripped off, and without a spare bike that was the end of my race.
