8 September 2012: Essex Roads Cross

There was a healthy turn-out of riders for the first round of the Eastern Cyclocross League, the Essex Roads Cross at Gloucester Park in Basildon. Conditions were sweltering, for competitors and for spectators, with as much jostling for shade as for racing lines!

The first race of the day saw one rider carted off to hospital, after crashing on a sharp bump on a fast section of the course. We hope he recovers soon!

Youth Race

Another crash in this race for under 16's and under 14's had the paramedics scrambling to assist. Again, we hope the rider is okay! It was quite a low turnout from the youths, and there were big gaps between the lead riders, but competition for top 10 positions was high and positions changed place as riders faded in the heat.

Dan Swindells was the only Great Yarmouth CC youth in action, and had a fantastic start to the race. He couldn't maintain that pace however, and ended up 5th in the under-14's category after being outsprinted by William Raymond (Welwyn Wheelers). Dan sits in 2nd place in the under-14's league table!

Full results and lap-o-meter timings are available on the Eastern CX website, as well as the league standings.
