If you love recreational cycling, and enjoy the prospect of an all-day ride, then the audax may be just what you need. Audax technically means "daring" or "courage", but you usually won't need either of these to complete one. In these pages we explore the background and options for this well-established brand of long-distance cycling, seeing what it takes to ride it - and more importantly, to enjoy it!
A word of warning: The audax experience is very much an individual thing, and everything that you read here will be largely from my perspective. I come from a competitive cycling background and don't dwell on much the culture and enjoyment factor of audaxes. It's up to you to decide and discover what works best for you!
To find out more, see Audax UK's New to Audax page.
Despite being around for a long time, Audax UK is fully modernised! You can join the organisation and enter any event online, payment is by direct debit or Paypal, and communications are by email. Event organisers will almost without exception publish a GPX route (as well as the traditional turn-by-turn directions), so your bike computer will know where to go even if you don't. E-brevets are also being adopted in more and more events, so you don't even have to collect receipts or answer tricky questions on your paper brevet card! Basically, there's no excuse to getting started.
