It's quite amusing how the Government is managing to be so indecisive about exactly how to legislate smoking in public places. People seem to agree that there is no middle ground in this issue, but nonetheless ministers are ploughing ahead with a 'not where food is served' policy which will give publicans very hard decisions to make about whether they should keep serving food. There is also ministerial talk about 'smoking rooms' which, given the restricted space in most pubs, is quite laughable. For all of its positive spin and "it'll be all right" talk, the Government has ended up being criticised from all directions and mocked for its indecision.
