Derivation

What does the Swindells name mean? Indeed, is it of British origin or something more exotic? David Swindell has put together a fine page on origins of the surname Swindale, Swindell, Swindle, Swingle and variants. Quite fascinating reading, and it unfortunately starts off by suggesting that 'Pig Valley' is the popular meaning of the name. It can be traced back to Skelton in North Yorkshire.
