Computer Retailers Rated and Reviewed

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a hobbyist when it comes to PCs, it helps to know where are the best places to shop. You'll need to avoid box-shifting companies if you need that bit of extra advice or confirmation before ordering, or maybe you just want the best prices?

Scan

Excellent across-the-board sales, with many hard-to-find items too

Watch out if you sign up to Scan's Finance package, through V12Finance.com (and arranged by Halifax Cetelem). I did this a several months ago, and realised after a few months that I'd been paying payment protection insurance; I certainly hadn't signed up for it, and Cetelem actually admitted that it had been an 'administrative error'. When I'd printed out the application form, the PPI amount was there but with nothing written next to it (although PPI was visible in the PDF on-screen), so it's almost like it was being covertly added on. So, check your agreement, even if you've finished paying! PPI certainly isn't cheap. By the way, Scan itself had nothing to do with this cockup, and probably not even V12Finance.com.

Scan has a couple of great 'deals' pages, at http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/ for daily deals and http://www.scan.co.uk/mixit/ for weekly bundle deals - keep an eye on these!
