Sponsored Abseil
The
Abseil Challenge 2006 sponsored by
The Benjamin Foundation is now all over (for me, at least!).
The date is June 3rd and the location is Southrepps Church in North Norfolk; see the map below.
There was quite a lot of abseiling gear, including a safety rope in case I lost control of the main rope. A professional abseiler was at the top, feeding out the safety rope. The harness I wore consisted of lots of strapping around my waist and legs, so there was no way I could become detached from the harness or the ropes.
Folgate House Abseilers
There were a few descenders from Folgate House (the building in North Walsham where I used to work) - pictured here are Ron and Jo. Troy also bravely descended just before me.

After a long wait I went into auto-pilot and climbed over the parapet, ignoring my better judgement. The descent was quite slow and very unnerving. I was quite shaken by the bottom!

Chris knew this wasn't going to be easy, but he went for it anyway. Made a nice smooth descent, but knew that he was only going to do this once!

I was somewhat concerned to be identified as the oldest abseiler, so next year I'll be recruiting even older victims to help!
In hindsight (as opposed to the terror of the event) I decided it was very satisfying, so I will be abseiling again next year - will you join us?
Cheers - & thanks for your help,
Ron
