Location: Manor Way, Holland-on-Sea, United Kingdom
We found this large insect on the upper esplanade at Holland Haven in Essex. It seemed to have been trodden on at its rear, but was mostly in good condition.
It is around 40mm long, and looks like either a cone-head cricket or a speckled bush cricket (judging by identifying features from a wildlife book). However, both of those crickets are up to 20mm long, so is it actually a locust? If so, what variety and how did it get there?
