Cambridge Consultants (Cleantec) believes it has developed a solution to 'radar blindness' caused by wind turbines. Existing radar systems, operated by Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the MoD, can lose planes for dangerously long periods because of the rotating blades of wind turbines. 6GW of potential wind farm installations, at 40 sites, are on hold because of the problem.

A test system at Swaffham in Norfolk, using a 66m diameter turbine operated by Ecotricity, has been proven to discriminate between moving targets and the turbine. Data collected at the turbine site must be fed back to the radar station.

I first read this in an IET article, but another full report on this is available from Engineer Live.
