Share Your Seeds

The BBC's Gardeners Question Time raised a dual issue common to virtually all small-scale gardeners: how to economise on seed-buying, and what to do with your leftover seeds.

Some gardening websites feature 'seed swap' days, but what we really need is a way for people to share their seeds whenever they like, and to buy in larger quantities as part of a local co-operative.

Bulk-Buy Seeds at 50% Discount

10 Apr 2009 | Comment
Our local garden centre in North Norfolk sells bulk quantities of seeds, at around 50% the per-seed price of seed packets. Quantities are in excess of 500 seeds (so at least ten times the amount in a typical packet), and the catch is the orders must be in by late January/early February.

The good thing is that the seeds will be the varieties that market gardeners were most happy with the previous year, so you should be able to get the best performing seeds without too much research.
