Staying Dry

Feeling guilty for using the car for the last week, I decided to stop being lazy and cycle in today.

I see it appears to be raining.

Ben, next door, has a cape/poncho/portable bivouac which he swears by. I have a pair of overtrousers which do the job and a lightweight jacket which merrily lets water in. Anyone have any top rain-resisting cycle wear tips? Perhaps a clip-on umbrella to go on the crash helmet....

If you live w/i 3 miles of UEA or don't get very warm cycling I would suggest a cheap waterproof from the market -- costs 10-12 quid & lasts reasonably well; will keep you dry, too!

baseball cap or taping up the airvents on your helmut can keep wet off your hair.

Freewheel has fluorescent light tops that allow air through under your arms if you get hot easily (like I do). Should cost under 20 quid.

Legs -- it depends. I used to walk when I lived in town if it was cold &/or wet & horribl, always wore shorts (even when it snowed) and I was happy.

A change of clothes in a waterproof bag.

I've had a set of waterproofs I got from the army/navy stores in Lowestoft years ago that still keep me perfectly dry. I think there's an army surplus store in Norwich market.

A freind of mine has a set of waterproofs that he can unzip the entire sides on to let air in. I think they were a bit expensive, though.

I may opt for a towel and change of clothes in a filing cabinet, the

latter being kept in the office rather than transported to and fro.

Bennets army surplus is just up the road from the Finesco and Firkin, I don't know about waterproofs but I think they have a few tank driving costumes if anyone is going to take up the earlier suggestions :)

Beckets, I bought by poncho from them (it also turns into a crude tent; ideal at festivals) about 15 quid. I also bought my tank hat there.
