14 October 2012: Amis Velo Supacross

The sixth round of the Eastern Region cyclocross league took place at Hillyfields, on the west side of Colchester in Essex. The ground was firm, but muddy in places, and the numerous technical sections caused problems for the less experience riders.

Youth Race

An extremely determined performance by under-14 youth Dougal Toms (Iceni Velo) gave him a decisive win over Matt Clements of Lee Valley Youth. William Raymond (Welwyn) was second in the under-14s, with Great Yarmouth riders Dan Swindells and Matt Baker finishing 4th and 6th respectively.

Senior/Junior/Elite Veteran Race

A full field made for lots of close racing, position changing and lapping. Darren Barclay (Artic/SRAM) finished the 7 laps first, just outsprinting Iceni rider Shaun Aldous on the short final straight. I made hard work of the technical sections and lost grip on several muddy corners, but held on to 15th place. Clive Bond (also of Great Yarmouth CC) came in at #52.
