There was a large turn-out in Springfield Hall Park (Chelmsford) for all of the races in round 2 of the Eastern Cyclo-cross League. A twisting, technical course and three sections of steps tested bike handling skills to the limit, and even the under-12 racers had tight turns and hard climbing to contend with. Conditions were extremely good: dry and mild, with a light breeze, and firm dry ground with no recent rain.
A wide range of rider abilities on a tricky cyclocross course made it hard work for tail-enders and front-runners alike. GYCC rider Tristan was going well, but had to retire after taking a corner too tight and getting trapped on one of the springy fence-posts.
The full-length course (with steps, tight turns and technical climbs) made some of the youths struggle, but the fastest riders put in some impressive lap times.

Thirty riders managed to avoid being lapped, a sign of a strong field. However, the full field of riders did cause some problems for the leaders, as they came across a lot of slower riders on many sections of the course.
Full results are on the Eastern Cross website.
