Low-Carbon Grants Explained

The Energy Saving Trust has a low-carbon funding FAQ that outlines how the funding will be allocated and when applications will be accepted. 24^th April 2006 is the date, and householders will be able to claim up to £1000 per kW installed - up to a maximum of 30% ex-VAT.

Interestingly, they also offer a grant for wood-fuelled boiler systems - up to £1500, and 30% max.

They also stipulate these minimum requirements:

• You have a minimum of 270mm of loft insulation
• You have installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)
• You are using low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings
• You have installed basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer.
