Jupiter Ecology Fund

My own figures for the performance of the Jupiter Ecology Fund don't quite seem to tally with Jupiter's own figures, shown here. From Jupiter Online:

My figures:

• 10 May 2001: £1000
• 5 Oct 2001: £724
• 5 April 2002: £835 = -16.5% 2001-2002
• 5 Oct 2002: £536 = -26% 2001-2002
• 30 April 2003: £494 = -38% 2002-2003
• 31 Oct 2003: £615 = 15% 2002-2003
• 30 April 2004: £620 = 25.5% 2003-2004
• 31 Oct 2004: £623 = 1% 2003-2004
• 30 April 2005: £680 = 10% 2004-2005
• 31 Oct 2005: £774 = 24% 2004-2005
• 30 April 2006: £990 = 46% 2005-2006
• 31 Oct 2006: £1001 = 29% 2005-2006

So the figures do tally - based on October-October figures. From this small dataset it appears that April is a much more volatile period than October.

However, it is still confusing that my £1000 fund bought in 2001 is now worth exactly the same in October 2006. The fund had one bad year, one flat year and three good years, so I would have thought that it would be worth a lot more than it is now. In fact, just going by the year-on-year figures it should be worth £1396 now! Actually, the answer to this is obvious - by October my £1000 was already only worth £724. Based on this, my fund should indeed be worth £1010 now. Ah well! At least it's performing well now, eh?
