Baby Blackbirds

By 21 May 2006 | Comment
This nest is right outside our back door, overlooking the sandpit. Remarkably, the children don't know about it. Mother bird holds her nerve while our 3 kids play almost directly under her nest, but Dad bird flies off as soon as he sees us. The fledglings are about a week old in this picture, and Mom and Dad are flying back and forth almost constantly with all sorts of grubs and insects to feed their brood (of 4 or 5, we think!).
